MOREHEAD CITY, NC (WITN) – A main street here in Eastern Carolina has been named best in the state.

Evans Street in Morehead City was named “Great Main Street” by the North Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association.

The town’s main street has undergone a huge transformation over the past six years, according to Lisa Rueh. executive director for Downtown Morehead City.

“Over the past 10 years, Downtown Morehead City, the town council and business owners have worked diligently with city officials and other influential individuals to create events,

attract new businesses and market all that downtown Morehead City offers,” Rueh said.

The downtown plays host to some big-name events, including the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament, the North Carolina Seafood Festival, and the Crystal Coast Boat Show.

Downtown Morehead City will accept the award on behalf of business owners and the town during the North Carolina League of Municipalities’ Town Hall Day in Raleigh next month.
