MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. — It’s an opportunity to remember and honor the sacrifices of Vietnam veterans closer to home.

More than 200 bikers escorted The Vietnam Traveling Memorial wall to Morehead City on Thursday just in time for Memorial Day weekend.

The wall is a 3/5 replica of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C, inscribed with 58,000 names of the fallen.

For 13 years, it’s been traveling the eastern half of the country to help those who can’t make the trip to Washington D.C.

“There are people who either couldn’t physically make the trip or emotionally can’t make the trip so we’re hoping that with their support system around them, they will be able to make the decision to come to the wall here and visit,” said Linda Phelps, Regent of Otway Burns Chapter.

The wall will be on display 24 hours a day starting Thursday night.

The opening ceremony will take place at Glad Tidings Church in Morehead City Friday morning at 11 a.m.
