When you think of coastal North Carolina, you probably imagine crystal clear water and sandy beaches with the beautiful dunes. Emerald Isle certainly fits this description with its premier beaches, attractions for everyone and the pinnacle of ocean views with the point where a sunset makes its statement in full. If you are considering a move, let us at Al Williams Properties help convince you this is your dream home location with these 4 reasons to make your home on the Emerald Isle coast.

Coastal History

Emerald Isle has a fun history of how it was created into the family friendly beach area it is today. In the 1950’s, a group of seven people purchased the 12 mile stretch of island for only $350,000 and divided it into 54 blocks going from sound to ocean.

Each of the seven members drew from a hat for who would take ownership of which blocks and to make sure it stayed a family friendly community, they limited commercial development and mobile homes to only five blocks each.

While additional development has certainly been done over the years, most are local businesses and family-oriented attractions for both the locals and visitors.

Water Escapades

Part of living on the coast is enjoying the various water attractions available. A favorite is the Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier for both enjoying a beautiful view walking on the pier, fishing to try to catch a record breaking fish, or enjoying a bite to eat inside the grill and bar while enjoying the scenery with friends.

For more adventurous outings, you can buy or rent kayaks, stand up paddle boards or even surfboards from either Hot Wax Surf Shop or South Swell Surf Shop. Whether you are young or old, a beginner or advanced, consider taking a surf lesson or two as well!

For the little ones in your family, a summer time favorite is the Salty Pirate Water Park. With a kiddie pool for the smallest children, tubing runs for both kids and adults and even tall water slides for the bravest members of the family, there will be plenty of laughs and memories made.

When you want to find the best “seat in the house”, head to the point of Emerald Isle for breathtaking views. During the winter seasons, get a vehicle pass to drive on the beach, pack some snacks and watch the sunset over the water.

Fun On Land

For those afternoons when you need a break from the water, Professor Hacker’s Lost Treasure Golf is a perfect option. Whether you want a fun date or a family outing, you will have a great time riding the mining train to the top and putting on their 18 hole course. They even have a go-kart track and bumper boats to enjoy once you are done.

If you want to get into nature, enjoy Emerald Isle Woods Park which has 41 acres of trails, a fishing area and floating dock, grills and picnic pavilion and even a disc golf course! Go for a walk with friends and family, get some exercise with a scenic hike or go bird watching, this park has it all.

Fresh Eats

One of the best parts of Emerald Isle is its restaurants which are typically with fun outdoor spaces to make the experience even better.

Rucker Johns is one where you can feed the ducks while waiting on your table overlooking the sound. The Village Market is a favorite local deli and gift shop with outdoor seating.

The Trading Post is known for its southern food and spirits and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with an outdoor patio as well. If you are in the mood for some fish tacos, head on over the Fish Hut Grill for a relaxing atmosphere.

For more upscale dining, Caribsea is your go-to with its menu of fresh fish, amazing steaks or even their maki “roll” of the day. Finish any day off at Sweet Spot where the kids or the kids at heart will have their sweet tooth fix of both ice cream and candy.

In the evenings, check out the Island Time Tavern, Emerald Isle Club or the Growler Bar, all of which have live music, trivia nights and a casual atmosphere.

Fun Buys

If you want to get some shopping done, head on over to Emerald Plantation Shopping Center. This outdoor center is filled with shops from shoes, clothing, gifts, jewelry, and it even has a movie theater- it has it all.

For the women, check out La Posh Boutique carrying all the year’s trends. Find some fun accessories and items, including name brands like Vineyard Vines, stop at Top It Off Boutique. For a fun boutique with an amazing swimwear collection, head over to Style The Day Boutique.

With its crystal clear beaches, stunning views, fun attractions and family-oriented living, Emerald Isle is a great place to call home.
