AVOIDING A REFRIGERATOR POWER OUTAGE:

Plugging your refrigerator into a GCFI outlet creates the potential for an isolated power outage.  The GCFI outlet is designed to “trip” if the load is too strong. This is a safety feature for other electric appliances because the GCFI instantly “trips” when a tiny imbalance occurs.

However, a refrigerator’s voltage use can fluctuate up and down which gives “nuisance” signals to the GCFI outlet causing it to trip.  When this occurs, your refrigerator can be off for hours before detected, resulting in food becoming unsafe to eat.  Always use a standard plug!
