Atlantic Beach National Night Out

Come out for the annual community-building National Night Out campaign of family fun, that promotes strong police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live and work. 

This year’s National Night Out will feature:

Rachel Carson Reserve Field Trip

Aug. 1: 8:15-10:30 a.m.

NOAA Administration Building

101 Pivers Island Road, Beaufort NC

Hosted by the NC Coastal Reserve, the walk takes participants along the pristine estuarine environment where juvenile fish and invertebrates find shelter and food.

Diverse arrays of important coastal habitats are found at the site including tidal flats, salt marshes, ocean beaches, soft bottoms, shell bottoms, dredge spoil areas, sand dunes, shrub thicket, submerged aquatic vegetation, and maritime forests.

2023 EmeraldFest Concert Series

Aug. 3, 10 and 17: 6:30-8:30 p.m.

101 Islander Drive, Emerald Isle, NC

The Town of Emerald Isle’s concert series continues. at the Western Ocean Regional Access facility off Islander Drive, one block east of the Coast Guard Road intersection.

Bring your blanket or lawn chairs and enjoy the great music by the sea!

Elementary Flower Power

Aug. 3: 3-4 p.m.

Beaufort Library, 1702 Live Oak St, Suite 100, Beaufort, NC

Calling all kids! Join us at the Beaufort Library and decorate your own flower pots and learn about beneficial plants. All materials will be provided. Recommended for ages 6-12. 

 

Turtle Talk at Fort Macon

Aug. 4: 10-11 a.m.

Fort Macon State Park 2303 E Fort Macon Road, Atlantic Beach, NC

Join a ranger at the bathhouse for a look at one of our local treasures: the sea turtle. Turtle Talk will feature all species of turtles and how common they are on our beaches.

You may be able to hike to an actual nest, depending on the location of any nests found this summer. 

 

Second Saturday Concert Series

Aug. 12: 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Jaycee Park, 807 Shepard Street, Morehead City, NC

Freeway Band will take the stage Aug. 12 as part of Morehead City Parks and Recreation Department’s summer concert series.

The event is free, and Meraki Mediterranean Kafé will be on site with tantalizing food offerings. 

 

Get Crafty at the Museum

Aug. 12: 6:30-8:30 p.m.

NC Aquarium at ­­Pine Knoll Shores

1 Roosevelt Boulevard, Pine Knoll Shores, NC

Splash into an underwater world of art while you sip and paint under the sea!  Instructors from Wine & Design of Morehead City will lead participants in painting a sea turtle at the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores.

The event is open to those 21 years old and up, and space is limited. The cost is $50, and advanced registration is required.

Guests may bring their favorite beer, wine, and champagne along with their favorite snacks.

 

Youth Fishing Tournament

Aug. 18: 4-8:30 p.m.

Camp Albemarle, 156 Albemarle Drive, Newport, NC

Register your young angler for the 6th annual Cross Trail Outfitters Crystal Coast Youth Fishing Tournament.

The tournament is open to youth ages 7-1 with 27 ways to win in seven fish categories, plus a Most Keeper Fish, Most Unusual Catch, and Smallest Fish prizes.

Fishing cannot take place from a boat, kayak, or canoe, but vessels can be used to get to an island.

The fee is $20 which includes a tournament T-shirt, gear bucket, and awards dinner ticket for the youth angler. Signup soon because registration is capped at 150 youth anglers!

 

Hiking & History on Shackleford Banks

Aug. 30: 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

NC Maritime Museum 315 Front Street, Beaufort, NC

Experience Outer Banks history and wildlife with a guided hike on Shackleford Banks, part of the Cape Lookout National Seashore. Participants will take a ferry to an undeveloped barrier island.

The trip requires hiking through sandy terrain for long distances. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

The fee is $35 ($31.50 for Friends of the Museum). Pre-registration is required by noon, Aug. 29.
